About the Artist
Anita Beshirs is a mixed-media visual and installation artist residing in San Francisco since 1994. Primarily self-taught in visual arts, her works in acrylics, pan pastels, textiles and assemblage have been shown in multiple Bay Area art exhibitions and galleries across the United States. The majority of her pieces include repurposed materials and unearthed treasures from thrift stores and fleas markets around the world.
A local arts advocate, Anita founded KNOWNsf, a company that curates art shows featuring local artists in local businesses and venues. She served in community roles as art liaison to the Divisadero Art Walk, traveling exhibition organizer for San Francisco Arts Commission and received a Certificate of Honor from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for outstanding community service.
Anita’s painting, “15 Murrays of Fame,” is currently featured in the newly released The Art of Being Bill: Bill Murray and the Many Faces of Awesome (Race Point Publishing, 2018), a collection of portraits of actor Bill Murray. The book can be purchased on Amazon here. Her painting, “Her Favorite Dogs,” is part of a traveling exhibition honoring Frida Kahlo, The World of Frida, visiting multiple museums from 2019-2022.
